Rules, Schedules and God's Provision

My daily Bible reading has taken me on a journey of miscellaneous rules; God’s rules for His people. Much of it has been rather dry and boring, repetitive and seemingly unnecessary. After all, who would think about stealing another man’s wife, well, I guess that people do thing about it and that’s why God had to be so specific about the things He wanted the Israelites to obey. God was very specific about the offerings and tithes brought to the temple, this offering is for this particular feast time and this offering is for that time. Bring this amount if you are married, and bring this amount if you do not have a wife. Take head that you obey these things, and do all that I have commanded you.

I came to the blessing today in my reading, Deuteronomy 28: 1-14. I’ll just quote verses 2 and 9. 2) “And all the blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God,” 9) “The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk in His ways.”

What a blessing! All the blessings shall come upon you, and He will establish you as a holy people. Now I do not promote the “prosperity” theory, but I do know that if we do as he commands us we will be blessed, not necessarily in monetary ways, but in my experience, He has always taken care of our needs when we are in the center of His will.

I am in the process of preparing for a trip for myself to attend my husband’s graduation from Ch-BOLC. My dear mother is coming with my niece to care for my children while I am away. I feel like I’m writing my own book of Deuteronomy, listing the rules, schedules and chores that we live by in this household. While I’m sure that it will not run perfectly here at home while I’m away, (indeed it does not run perfectly when I am at home,) I would hope that my children would remember the rules they have been taught and that they will reap the blessings of following the schedules and doing the chores that have been laid out before them. I hope that they will remember with fondness the fellowship with their Grammy and their cousin, and know the pleasure of familial love.

What a great verse. May it be done over you and all that is yours. May the maker of heaven and earth bless you through and through.... and then may He bless you some more.

Thank you for sharing those verses and thoughts! I have not been by here in a while, so I just spent the last 20 minutes catching up! I really should be working right now, but I get so caught up in everyone's stories and thoughts.

I pray that the time you have alone with Papa Bear is blessed! And I will pray for the kids while you are gone too....I know mine (and there are only 2 of them) love to try to pull things over on whoever the sitter is all the time! Nothing major, but enough to make you shake your head and think..."What were they thinking?" They know the rules, but they do it anyway.....

Have a great time!

What a great analogy. God's rules are for our benefit, just as we make rules for our children for their benefit. I hope your trip is wonderful!

Have a great time on your trip! I love when Chad and I can have a retreat every now and then! Great parrell (I'm thinking that is badly mispelled!)
